The Opaline Project
A Creative Muse for Curious Minds
Opaline is a project for writers in two parts: Opaline Classic and the experimental Opaline Lab.
The Story
I made Opaline while recovering from a concussion.
I still wanted to write, but the usual ways of starting felt overwhelming. Blank pages were too open. I got lost in complex prompts with long paragraphs. Thoughts literally dissolved as I tried to find words, leaving me frustrated and lost.
I started wishing for something very specific: a tool that could meet me where I was. Something that could meet me on low-energy, foggy days, when I still cared deeply about writing but couldn’t begin. In short, something that could help me be a writer on a bad brain day. So I built it.
Opaline Classic is the tool I wish I had then: structured enough to guide you, open enough to let you think, and gentle enough to return to. My sincere hope is that this tool can help other writers who have bad brain days, for whatever reason. It is a writing prompt generator that literally takes the scraps of ideas you already have: colours, atmospheres, moods, impressions, and weaves them into a writing prompt with whatever level of structural support you need. It has expanded as time has passed, and I am so excited to introduce soundscapes to pair with the prompts for (free) account holders!
Opaline Lab: Of course, me being me, once I started thinking about the creative process, I couldn’t stop at writing prompts. I researched different cognitive functions, and tinkered around with many experimental modes. I have combined a starting collection of them into a separate experimental lab that I hope to develop into its own stand alone program. So far I have modes that help settle a noisy brain and give some direction, an almanac that gives hyperlocal insight into the natural world (perfect for gentle journaling!), a moon mode, modes that treat sound and colour as their own kind of writing prompts, editing exercises, insight into your own writing, and more!
This is a new project, and I am not a software developer. I’m a writer trying to use these amazing new tools to help other writers. It’s still evolving, but it’s already helped me come back to writing… and I hope it can do the same for you.

Opaline Lab
Experimental Cognitive Studio ~ Currently in Private Beta
The Concept:
Where Classic builds prompts out of atmosphere, the Lab approaches writing through how creative cognition actually moves. Instead of asking you to perform on demand, each room offers an indirect angle in—settling a noisy mind, writing in dialogue with today's living world, or reshaping drafts through gentle constraint.Key Features:
The Eleven Rooms: A constellation of distinct cognitive spaces—from Compass (an orienting tool to ground a scattered focus) to the Almanac (hyperlocal seasonal & ecological ledger), Moon, Echo, Pressure, Sonic, and Kaleidoscope.
A Slow-Grown Cohort: An intimate beta community of thoughtful writers exploring early rooms, sharing notes at the Common Table, and shaping the tools before they exist anywhere else.
A Growing Project: More experiments are already in the works. The Beta Cohort gets gets access to new features before anyone else, and gets to experience Opaline Lab for free before it is made available to the public.
Seeking New Members: There are a limited number of slots left for the Beta Cohort. Message me for more information or join today!

Who is Opaline for?
Opaline is especially made for:
writers who feel stuck or overwhelmed
people returning to writing after time away
anyone who wants a more intuitive, less rigid starting point
anyone who just wants a fresh perspective
It’s designed to be gentle, but not simplistic—something you can come back to again and again. Accessibility is a core value of Opaline’s design. I have done my best to make everyone feel at home. If you have any special accessibility requests, please let me know, and I will do my best to accommodate them.
Support the Opaline Project
