Opaline

A Creative Muse for Curious Minds

Opaline is a free writing-prompt studio designed to help you get started, especially on days when it feels hard.

What is Opaline?

Opaline offers structured, sensory-guided writing prompts across genres like poetry, fiction, journaling, and more.

You can choose:

  • How much guidance you want

  • A tone or atmosphere

  • Words or themes you’re drawn to

  • …and some other surprises

Then Opaline generates a prompt designed to meet you where you are—whether you want something expansive or something very light. There’s no “right” way to use it. You can follow the steps closely, or just take a single image and run with it. Opaline will not do your writing for you, but it can help you begin.

Who it’s for

Opaline is especially made for:

  • writers who feel stuck or overwhelmed

  • people returning to writing after time away

  • anyone who wants a more intuitive, less rigid starting point

  • anyone who just wants a fresh perspective

It’s designed to be gentle, but not simplistic—something you can come back to again and again. Accessibility is a core value of Opaline’s design. I have done my best to make everyone feel at home. If you have any special accessibility requests, please let me know, and I will do my best to accomodate them.

The Story

I made Opaline while recovering from a concussion.

For a long time, I still wanted to write, but the usual ways of starting felt overwhelming. Blank pages were too open. Complex prompts were too much. Thoughts literally dissolved as I tried to find words.

I started wishing for something very specific: a tool that could meet me where I was. Something that could meet me on low-energy days, on foggy days, on days when I still cared deeply about writing but couldn’t quite access it in the same way. In short, something that could help me be a writer on a bad brain day.

So I built it.

Opaline is the tool I wish I had then: structured enough to guide you, open enough to let you think, and gentle enough to return to. My sincere hope is that this tool can help other writers who have bad brain days, for whatever reason. This is a new project, and I am not a software developer. I’m a writer trying to use these amazing new tools to help other writers. It’s still evolving, but it’s already helped me come back to writing—and I hope it can do the same for you.

Free & Private

Opaline is completely free to use.

  • No account required (because those are a pain!)

  • Nothing is saved or tracked

  • Your writing stays with you

You can open it, use it, and leave at any time. If you like a prompt, you can download it, and it is yours to keep.

If you’d like to support it

Opaline is free and will stay that way.

If you find it helpful and want to support its development, you’re welcome to leave a small tip. It helps me keep building and improving the tool. I welcome your feedback, and I’d love to see what you write!
